You\u2019ve gotta love Dodge. Not only has it put ridiculous 707hp V8s in its Challenger and Charger models, it has made that horsepower available to the masses by making the cars\u00a0relatively\u00a0affordable. Unfortunately it appears it didn\u2019t foresee just how popular a $60k car with that much power would be, and currently has more than 9000 Hellcat orders – about twice as many as Dodge originally expected.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Therefore the infrastructure in place can\u2019t quite keep up with demand, with\u00a0Car and Driver\u00a0reporting that Dodge has been forced to put new Hellcat orders on hold until it works through the backlog. Earlier this month\u00a0FCA warned its own customers about dodgy Hellcat dealers\u00a0taking orders for cars it could never hope to fill – at least not in the foreseeable future.<\/p>\n

So far 2200 cars have been delivered, but it\u2019s unclear if Dodge will change its delivery system (which limits dealers to a maximum of one car per month) to meet demand, or if it is even capable of producing more Hellcats. Order books are expected to reopen in August, but in the meantime, those with orders have a long wait for their car.<\/p>\n
